Copying a DVD and changing the region code
I have found other threads for this but no solution. I want to copy a DVD(video) but I want to change the region code. Is there a way that I can either create an iso from the regioned source dvd to the region I want, or just get a ripper that'll give me the option to burn it into a new region? So to reiterate what I just said in english: I want to copy a dvd and burn it to either an r or rw in a different region code so I can watch it on my TV with Dolby Digital 5.1. I thank you in advance for you advice.

since the burners capable of burning 9 GB DVD's are quite expensive - if available at all - what you want is probably this:
rip the dvd and burn (at least) the main feature to a (today) standard 5 GB DVD. This can be achieved with different tools - some of them are: dvd9to5 --> http://lakedaemon.netmindz.net/dvd9to5/ lxdvdrip --> http://developer.berlios.de/projects/lxdvdrip/ streamdvd --> http://www.badabum.de/streamdvd.html and if you have and use wine: DVD Shrink --> originally a windows tool |
Thanks for the prompt reply. But I was inquiring about changing the region code. Or am I mistaken and can I change it using one or more of these programs? If that is the way could you give me some examples of the command line since I am not too good at that?

I have never had a dvd with a different region-code but I think in linux this does not matter - It may sometimes depend on the drive...?
I was under the impression that if the dvd is ripped it is also decoded - so region should not matter when re-burned. This may not be true for all these tools - you will just have to find out yourself - visit the sites and read the docs. |
If that is true that the region is decoded when ripped then doesn't that mean that I have to re-region code it for the burn process? If I don't re-region code it then it'll come out as non-region, and I don't own a chinese DVD player so it wouldn't work on my stand-alone. I want to re-region code it to region 1. If I use regionset for my drive would it automatically region code the dvd to the region that my drive is set on upon burn? I will read the docs thanks for the advice on what programs to use. Does anyone else know other programs to use? like k3b?
