convert mp4 to divx
 

Hi all,

I have an MP4 file that i need to convert into divx or similar to play on my ps3.

What's the best way/program to use to do this?

Video codec: H.264 /AVC

Audio Codec: MPEG-4 AAC audio

i'd like to maintain quality etc of course.

Try mplayer or ffmpeg...

will that convert or just play?

specific help would be greatly appreciated - i have no idea.

mencoder is a tool that comes with mplayer. It is a complex tool with many options so I cannot really say 'just run this'. Have a look at the docs, decide your codecs and then experiment.

To tell the truth, ffmpeg may be easier to try...

You might look at avidemux. It is gui based and a lot easier to use. It is available from most distros package managers but is relatively easy to compile too.

for ffmpeg you can also try my kommander gui. It also lets you to convert multiple files.
