Convert mp3 to aac

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to convert mp3 to avi. I suspect mencoder can do this, but I haven't had any luck yet. Can someone please post a sample command? Thanks!

mp3 to aac? or mp3 to avi? are aac and avi the same? i don't think so, i have a nokia 3300 which comes with a sw that actually converts .mp3 to .aac before putting the file to the 3300 as .aac is its native format. i don't use the sw anymore as i don't like using the sw to copy files to the 3300 filesystem since its just a reg. filesystem and support mp3 too.
i have heard cooleditpro does a good job.

Mp3 to AAC. AVI is a video format. AAC is an audio format.

Yeah, phone compatibility is basically why I'm working on this. The model I have is burdened with crippling DRM, so I can't put my own music onto it. (Avoid Vodafone everyone!!!)

I've heard the phone is looking for certain tags on the mp3s and that this "protection system" can be bypassed through a conversion to AAC.

Of course, now that I've said that, I imagine it may be illegal for anyone in the US to help me, or even read the preceding paragraph, thanks to that country's (ridiculous and fair-use inhibiting) DMCA law.

Anyone else care to take a shot at the problem?
