Convert .iso to .avi

I want to convert an .iso video file to an .avi file. Google searches suggested using dvd:rip. Dvd::rip didn't work for me because I am using a netbook that doesn't have a DVD drive. I'm using eeebuntu on an Asus eeePC 1000HE.

Here's a howto at ehow.com that lists how to do it. http://www.ehow.com/how_5325990_conv...avi-linux.html
Pay particular attention to step 4, mounting the iso as a virtual dvd (which snowtigger suggested), then use dvd::rip as described in step 5.

Even easier, just set the dvd device to the path for the iso. That is replace the /dev/dvd (or whatever) with the source you want. dvdrip should treat it as if it were an actual disc.

Thanks for the quick responses! I've gotten a little further. I set the dvd device to the path for the iso like David the H. suggested. dvd:rip created 4 vob files from my iso.

Step 5 of the ehow.com instructions mention a "Conversion" option from the File menu. I don't see that. My File menu consists of: New Project, Open Project, Save Project, Save Project As, Close Project, and Exit. My dvd::rip version is 0.98.9.

In the 'Transcode' tab of dvd::rip, I chose AVI as my container option. There is an avi sub-folder in my project folder but it's empty.
