It is faster and very effective. But oocalc has many more features. Personally I do not use spread sheet programs... they are not meant for heavy computing.
No heavy calculation, but need more flexibility than tables provide
I'm not doing any heavy calculation, but I need more flexibility than Writer tables seem to provide. For instance, I want to be able to generate labels for the rows of the table of the form A1, A2, etc. These labels would be regenerated whenever I add or remove rows. Another example: in Writer it's awkward (though of course possible) to move a group of rows from one place to another. It's easier in a spreadsheet.
