Console screensaver won't disable

I have tried to disable the console or terminal screensaver with the ususal:
setterm -blank 0 and it just won't go away. This happens on Debian, Gentoo, and now my current distro that I use the most. Everytime i leave and come back it's comes on after about 5 or 10 minutes.

Is there a way to remove the console screensaver completely, like in my kernel. I have no problem recompiling any kernel but I did not see an option to disable anything of the sort rather than setting terminal attributes. I also setterm -blank 0 in my virtual console that I start my X session from but still don't work.

Thanks
