Console Desktop Background
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to have a console as the desktop background. I would like to have a different console on each virtual desktop. Then, whenever I want to do simple things like "ifup eth1" for my wireless network or play a song with mplayer I don't have to open a new console; it's already right in front of me. I use kde 3.2 right now, though I would be interested in knowing if there is something similar in a different window manager.

Try Ion. Yu may like it.

Or you could always just make Konsole transparent, and maximize it. And doesn't XFce have a command-line field that can be added to the panel?

I was just looking at Ion the other day, though, and it does look cool.

A lot of people seem to do that sort of thing with blackbox and fluxbox as well, but I don't know how (yet).
