Connecting LibreOffice Base 5 to MySQL or MariaDB

Are any of you successfully connecting LibreOffice Base 5 (I'm running 5.1.4.2) to either a MySQL or MariaDB database server, either for Linux or Windows?

I've been trying to find a working solution on the web, but with no success so far.

Yes, connecting Base to MySQL can be done. You need to become familiar with this website: Open Office Forum. Then look at this post: Connect MySQL and Base. Additionally, look at the LibreOffice extension website: Extensions.

Now, having said that; I would recommend dumping Base in favor of using Firefox/HTML/PHP to connect to MySQL and/or Maria. I have found that approach to be easier than using Base.

I did try using the Base form generator to a connected mysql database a few years ago. From memory, basically it involved installing the JDBC connector for mysql (mysql-connector-java), then setting base options-database and verifying the connection to mysql.

Then when connecting to an existing database, use "jdbc:mysql://<server>:<port>/<database> and for the driver use com.mysql.jdbc.Driver

At the time I was working with Base on windows 7 connecting to a mysql server on a linux server. It worked, but I gave up trying to figure out the Base form generator wizard (nothing to do with the database connection
