Connect to an ISP

I have a question regarding ISPs. I now have a dial-up service provider called Wal-Mart Connect. It is an ISP that uses CompuServe to connect to its service. My question is, is it possible to connect to this ISP since it requires a software to connect? Also, I am aware that there is a software for Linspire, my linux distro, that can connect to AOL. My ISP is not AOL, but it is an AOL branch. Is it possible to use that software to connect? Also, is it possible to download that software without paying for the CNR Membership? Sorry for all the questions, but any help would be appreciated, even comments about Linspire!!!

I doubt you can get that dialup software to connect to AOL that Linspire uses but if your not directly using AOL, it most likely won't work.

Your ISP might have software to connect but have you tried connecting without it just using a dialer? Most ISP's don't require their software, they just want you to use it by default. If you have a windows machine, try setting up just a regular dial connection to test, if it dials and connects that way, it will most likely work using Linux.

Yes, I have tried using this ISP without their software, and it does not work (it's just like AOL). And by the way, my Linux OS is Linspire.

Well if you don't have CNR, if you know the name of the software it uses and if it works with your ISP, try searching for it on the net, probably 99% of the software in Linspires CNR is free for download already on the net.

Then they've probably got it so you have to use CNR. You could probably check with Linspire if it will actually work with your ISP and if it does, maybe just buy the software itself, instead of subscribing to CNR.
