Confused Kubuntu can I change?
 

First of all I am new at this. I am having a heck of a time with my KDE v. of Ubuntu. I cannot install my printer, no matter what I do even with the driver found here. Next my DVD player wont play, it will burn using K3B, but not play in any player. I have tried installing the plugins from another forum and no luck. Next my screensaver is stuck with that ant walking around in the dark and I can't change it no matter what I do. So. Can I either reinstall Ubuntu and redo Kubuntu or try another distro without losing anything (mainly mail)? I do have dual boot with WinXP on half the disk(for my wife)I am getting frustrated with this as I don't know the commands to do anything in terminal.

I suggest that you create a new partition and install another Linux distribution as a third OS. You can experiment with different distributions until you find one that you like. Once you settle on a distribution then you can move your data from Ubuntu and Windows to the new distribution.

I'd suggest that you try a few live cd's until you find one that suits your hardware.

Most Linux install programs, whether straight from source or via a live cd, will give you the option to remove all linux partitions and install in the space that leaves, so you will have no problem reinstalling or replacing with another distribution. Your Windows installation should stay safe. I've never met a case where that was damaged yet.
