conflict between realplayer10 and mplayer ?

All,

The system is FC5 with a sound fusion audio chip. The audio stack is ALSA.

There seems to be a conflict between mplayer and realplayer10. If mplayer is started first it plays audio just fine. However realplayer will not play. After trying to play with realplayer, mplayer will not play again.

Does anyone have any pointers on this?

Linux usually provides debug tools. Is there a tool, ala ls, to debug the sound stack?

Thanks,

Dan

does realplayer 10 do alsa now? i didn't think it did... you'd need to check that out, but also check the mplayer output to show that it is actually using alsa for sure. what else uses alsa? what does work with what? if everything is going through alsa then check that you are using the dmix plugin to enable multiple inputs.

Thanks for your reply. There is an update. mplayer is using ALSA and it appears to work. gnome cd also plays cd's.

The near term issues are:
the sound stack hangs on suspend resume
so far nothing will plan ra or ram files

You suggested I use the dmux plugin. How do I do that?
Is there a tool to show the sound stack? Is there an introductory description? There appear to be a handful of players and several stacks, oss, alsa, arts ???

Thanks - Dan
