conflict between 2 versions of freetype while installing pango

Hi all,

I have a such amazing problem!

I launched the configure and it worked so well the last message was

configuration:
backends: FreeType X Cairo

Especially I need cairo because I'm using pango to install GTK.

Then when I launch make I get this warnings and error:

Code:
/bin/bash ../libtool --mode=link gcc -g -O2 -Wall -lfontconfig -o pango-querymodules querymodules.o libpangox-1.0.la libpangoft2-1.0.la libpango-1.0.la -L/sw/gnu/glib/glib-2.8.6/sun/lib

What I don't understand is that no flg or variable contains the path to the freetype 2.1.7 I also checked with ldd different used tools (cairo, fontconfig...)
could anyone please help me?

Thanks and regards,
Mohamed.

Try to uninstall freetype-2.1.7
As you didn't say what distribution you use, I cannot tell more.
Good luck.

Wellcome to shared lib hell,
the easy way is to to rename freetype-2.1.7/lib/libfreetype.so into _libfreetype.so see what
breaks and recompile with the newer freetype.
if your installer supports dependencys on shared libs it may be the better solution.
(with linux you can use ldd on the binaries to find out).
you can make more complicated thinks that that usualy breaks at some level somewhere an will not make you happy.

sorry here is no easy way except upgrading the different packages.

I had a conflict with an older version of freetype installed in a different location. I just replaced the files for the older version with links to the new one. Seemed to work OK for me.

regards,
