Configuring Tomcat 5.0.27 to connect with Apache2 using JDK1.2.6
Ok here we go,
I'm still relatively new to Linux so hopefully this will be a snap for you all. I have set up apache and tomcat and have read that it is good practice to connect them. From searching around the internet I downloaded jakarta-tomcat-connectors-jk-1.2-src-current.tar.gz.
After tar -xvzf'ing it I navigated to the CONNECTOR_HOME/jk/native and went on to use the command:
I have checked the directory to make sure that there is in fact an apxs file there and there is. However as it compiles I get:
configure: error: You must specify a valid --with-apxs path
I have checked to make sure I have Pearl, which I do, and am right out of ideas.. Please help if you can. Below is the last few lines it spits out at me when I issue the configure command:
need to check for Perl first, apxs depends on it...
checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl
could not find /usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs
configure: error: You must specify a valid --with-apxs path
Hey, nice to see someone finally replied, unfortunately we still seem stuck. Here's what I've learned so far.
Tomcat is running on port 8080, Apache on 80
If you type in localhost you should get Apache's page and if you type in localhost:8080 you should get tomcat. I guess what this jdk is supposed to do is divide diffrent work to be done between the 2 ie- servlets going to tomcat, unfortunately I'm still having the same problem as mentioned above. If you end up getting it working together please help me.
I went through the tutorial mentioned above. Fact is it seems to be just to old. I don't know if Apache or Tomcat have made great strides in the last few years but many of the configure files and connectors don't seem to exist anymore. I will keep at it and hopefully post an up-to-date tutorial on how to use the newest versions of Apache and Tomcat together. If anyone has any advice or help, I'm sure I could use it.
