Configuring Samba...help!!

Hello....i am an intern this summer and need help! My job is to work w/linux..this is the first time really...and im basically on my own!

I am to creat a client image and one my jobs is to make sure that the shared drives our company owns needs to be moved onto the linux machines...i figured out that Samba is the best way to do this!!

I went in and downloaded samba 3.0.4 and was able to get to the read me on installation/configuration....i was then given a book by my boss to figure out the rest...well i cant do that on my own with just a big, thick book!! I found in the book a 9 step solution to install it...and after i do the README step, i cant get the ./configure to work it keeps telling me no such file or directory .....what does this mean and how do i get it??

help!! Thanks!

Lauren

just to make sure...are you in the samba install directory when doing ./configure? the "./" in front of the configure means, that configure is run from the _current_ dir. so if samba's install files are in /home/me/samba/ and you are in /home/me/ and type ./configure, it tries to start /home/me/configure and not /home/me/samba/configure as it should...

I can't think of anything else. "no such file or directory" means basically that the file you try to open/run doesn't exist in the place you "say" it is...
