Configuring PostFix to send duplicate messages to the administrator

Hi there --

I downloaded and installed the Postfix MTA on the server. Once that was done, I modified the main.cf.default file to include the administrator's e-mail address after the always_bcc option. The MTA was subsequently restarted, and came up without any issue.

I then ran a test to see if the new setting would work. The result was while the intended recipient received an e-mail, the administrator did not get a carbon copy of the message. What other step(s) do I need to take to correct this?

Thanks.

Hello,

How did you test that? By sending a mail from the console on the server where Postfix is installed? From the Postfix website:
Quote:
Note: automatic BCC recipients are produced only for new mail. To avoid mailer loops, automatic BCC recipients are not generated after Postfix forwards mail internally, or after Postfix generates mail itself.
Kind regards,

Eric

Hi there --

The tests that I ran involved the following:

1. Uploading a file to the website on the server which causes the Postfix MTA to notify the recipient of the 'package'.
2. Running the mailx command-line from the server console to send a text file to a remote address.

If I am reading the quote that you supplied in your posting correctly, then neither of the above tests would generate
a bcc message to the administrator. Correct?

Hello,

If your webserver is on the same server that has Postfix installed (1) then there will be no BCC send out if mail is sent internally. If the mail from the command-line is sent to an internal mail address, generated on the same host that has Postfix installed, then there would not be a BCC sent out if I understand it correctly.

I suggest you try from another host to send mail through the Postfix server, if you've set it up to accept mail from your network and see if a BCC gets sent out automatically. You can also check the log files to see if anything points to why this might be happening.

Kind regards,

Eric
