configuring nagios

Hai,
I just started using nagios. Its features are excellent, but I am facing difficulties in using it. Here are few doubts in using nagios. Please clarify this.

1. How can we use the plugins. I have downloaded nagios-plugins-1.4.11 but not able to know where should I use it. I mean to say that, to use a plugin what modification should we do in different files and I also want to know what are those different files.

2. For using a check_command in our host file should we define that particular command in commands.cfg

3.How can we specify the threshold values for the commands.

Please help me to clarify these doubts.

Thanks,
Prakash.

I can only see questions ... where are the doubts?

I am not expecting to know whether they are questions are doubts. Please provide answers for those doubts(questions as you said).

Thanks,
Prakash.

hi,
I too know the difference between a question and a doubt. I request you to stop thinking whether its a question or a doubt. If you can give the answer then try to give. Else, I request you to please keep quiet and wait for some other post. Its better option than posting that its a question, not a doubt too many times. I expect not to repeat this from you next time.

I guess that is an Indian thing isn't it. I have heard that from several Indian colleagues here in London. Many tend to use say "I have a doubt", when it should be "I have a question". :)

Anyway. There might be some Nagios users here that can help. I have just started looking at it myself, so I can't help. I would try the Nagios community first: http://www.nagioscommunity.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Good luck. Nagios seems like a good open source alternative to the likes of Netcool/Omnibus etc.
