Configuring MySQL

Alright, im trying to setup MySQL, and im having some problems

alright, im currently in /usr/local/src/mysql-4.0.22

and im doing the ./configure with the following parameters

./configure \
--prefix=/usr/local/mysql \
--localstatedir=/usr/local/mysql/data \
--disable-maintainer-mode \
--with-mysqld-user=mysql \
--with-unix-socket-path=/tmp/mysql.sock \
--without-comment \
--without-debug \

now, it goes through, and at the end i get this message

checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.

And then stops. Fails sanity check? Whats that?

Im thinking this is a problem of sorts, any ideas anyone?
