I accidentally replied to this post using the report this post form. Hope the mod's won't get mad. |
Depends on how you installed SMB4k. If through yum there should be a menu item in the KDE menu. If from source I think it still does since KDE compliant. For a shortcut open a knoquorer window and drag the smb4k executable to the Desktop as a link. Then you can right click and select properties and then change the icon to an smb4k icon.

i clicked next and the wizard is looking for a password to remember....is it looking for the PW for my XP machine?

You can try going to kcontrol and search for printers. Then add a printer and follow the wizard instructions.

Guys, how come I can't see my linux machine on my XP machine but I can access my xp machine from Linux machine? Would linux machine firewall be blocking it? If so, how do I fix that please?

Add some shares then check the XP machine. |
If you can ping your linux machine from the XP one then I doubt there are any router/firewall problems.
I'm off to sleep man. I need it. vxc |
VXC... I found samba, opened it, under settings workgroup and netbios name of my linux machine and clicked off user and clicked apply, under shares i selected home directories and clicked apply but i still can't see it on my XP machine...any idea why?

Do you have a firewall up on the linux machine?
If so is it blocking the need ports for samba access? Brian |
Brian, What are the need ports for samba access please? How do I punch a hole in the linux firewall to permit access?

./etc/init.d/iptables status or ./etc/rc.d/init.d/iptables status The above may work, also you might have ipchains instead of iptables. I'm not too sure because I haven't used fedora since core 2. If you have got a firewall setup then let ports 137 and 139 access from outside. You might want to search the archives about getting samba to work if you didn't setup a firewall. I think that may be the problem. All else fails and you still think you have a firewall problem then try starting a new thread in the networking forum. I don't have much experience with firewall setups. vxc |
