Configuring Clamd.conf

Hey guys i have installed clam antivirus in my ubuntu box as said in the manual configuring the clamd.conf is straightforward, so i have read every line in the clamd.conf and uncommented everything i thought neccessary. But when i run clamd i get this error:

Quote:
ERROR: Please edit the example config file /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf.
ERROR: Can't open/parse the config file /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf

Does this file (usr/local/etc/clamd.conf) exists?
If it exists then comment the line with the word "Example". If not then copy the example config file, comment the line "Example" and edit the rest to your liking.

Where is your clamd.conf? It seems like your program cannot find it, so maybe you are supposed to copy an example config file to /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf or create /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf from scratch.

Edit: beaten to the solution

my clamd.conf is located in /usr/local/etc and my problem has been solved by commenting example thank you.

Now im turning my attention on upgrading clams virus definition and have some few questions.

1. I get this warning WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED! i have read the FAQ in clamav.net does it mean i have to uninstall clamav and install its new version?

2. What is this error LibClamAV Error: Database Directory: /var/lib/clamav not locked?

3. If i execute freshclam -d will freshclam run as a daemon in the background even if restarted and booted up again.

1. You should upgrade to the newer clamav version
2. It could be a permissions issue.
3. You must put that command in your init scripts in order for freshclam to run at startup. IMHO it's better to run freshclam through cron to update virus definitions 1 or 2 times a day
