Configure X server at runtime

I am using RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.3 and using dosemu to run the graphical application on top of it.

I am in need of starting "xinit" to invoke my graphical application to run on top of dosemu(DOS emulator)

As per the requirements, i start xinit when required from terminal and exit to terminal when needed. I want to know the method to configure X server such that the X-sessions can be established at run time and not on every startup of X-server.

The current problem am facing is that the X-server crashes when i try to start one another instance of X using "xinit" and switching between virtual terminal hangs.

I want to dynamically control a particular X-session and close it when not needed. But the default Ctrl+Alt+F7 window should be always active.

Suggest me the ways to conrol the X-sessions (more than one session with the X-server using terminal)

Regards,
Jeyaselvan N

does 'xinit <command> -- :<display>' work? Your 'main' session will still run on VT7 (ctrl-alt-f7) but the command passed to xinit will run in vt8 or vt9+

eg: sudo xinit gedit -- :1

It will drop back to VT7 or a terminal when <command> exits (depending on how it was run)
