Post ./configure problem

Hai all,
I am new to Linux and I tried installing pkgconfig package in my RH 9 system .
I typed ./configure on the terminal as told in the 'README'.
But I got the following error:

[root@localhost pkgconfig]# ./configure
: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
[root@localhost pkgconfig]# sh ./configure
: command not found:
: command not found:
: command not found5:
'/configure: line 30: syntax error near unexpected token `in
'/configure: line 30: ` case X$UNAME in

In some files they told to adjust 'environment variables'.
When I typed 'env' for environment variables I got the following:

[root@localhost pkgconfig]# env

Hi,

sometimes this error comes from a bad Line Terminaison... for example when you import an archive from a Windows Filesystem, line Term are not the same. But there's an utilitary called "dos2unix" to solve this
