configure Mozilla 1.6 as mail client inside a LAN

Folks,

With our Linux server, it is OK to ping
our web host's provided mail.*.com, but inside any PC within our LAN,
we cannot reach mail.*.com, the LAN is proxyed
by squid, any idea to resolve the problem for us
to confifure our Mozilla 1.6 as mail client?

How to resolve this issue so that all of our client can also take the
advantage?

Thx a ton,
HTM

you could try port redirection or binding,
Im not to sure what a proxy is, but if the proxy only allows access through one port or a set of ports (firewall basically)
then redirect your local machines ports to the allowable proxy open ports.

or try Webmail.
that is if you are sure your pop3 server can do that.

I never much understood the reasoning for a proxy on a LAN, solely because your router has its own firewall, that can be disabled, or enabled,

but you also have port forwarding. Which nullifies the need for a proxy.

read up on stealthing open ports with a router.

how about IP Masquarding

I know port redirecting, actually the purpose of squid, one is
content caching, the other is to control internet access within a LAN.

I got the news that squid itself cannot handle my Mozilla mail
client configuration issue, they suggest IP Masquarding on Redhat,
doeas anyone know that, and could anyone tell me what to do with that?

Thx,
HTM
