configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

Hi Guys, I'm new to the forums (and Linux) but I thought you'd be able to help out.

I'm trying to build Wine on my Intel Mac but the process doesn't start due the following error:

-configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

I definitely installed a compiler (i386 Linux GCC for Mac OS X) and when I echo my $PATH, the compiler shows up there:

-Nicholas-Serlucos-MacBook-Pro:~/distrib Nick$ echo $PATH
-/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/i386-linux-4.1.1/bin

Can anyone tell me what's wrong here? Thanks in advance for all your help!

-Nick

Look in configure.log to see what exactly is failing. Otherwise Google the error message, you will find innumerable people with the same problem and a solution.

What happens when you try and run "gcc" itself?

Well, here is some of the output from config.log. GCC is in the PATH, but it's not recognized in the Core Tests. Maybe I didn't install it correctly? I'm completely lost.

PATH: /bin
PATH: /sbin
PATH: /usr/bin
PATH: /usr/sbin
PATH: /usr/local/i386-linux-4.1.1/bin/i386-linux-gcc

What happens when you type "which gcc" ?

When I type "which gcc", it returns with:

no gcc in /bin /sbin /usr/bin /usr/sbin /usr/local/i386-linux-4.1.1/bin/i386-linux-gcc

I guess that's the problem, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing it

EDIT: Apparently Apple includes a GCC compiler in their XCode development tool kit. I'm downloading it now, but it's a hefty file and is going to take some time. This solution seems promising, but I'd still appreciate a more timely approach if anyone has one. Thanks again
