I have just installed open SuSE 10, and am trying to get all my programs and codec and plugins how I want them.unfortunatley whenever i try to run ./configure on anything when im trying to install from source i get an error like this (from trying to install a avi codec for xmms):
checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.2... no
*** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found
*** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to glib-config.
configure: error: *** GLIB >= 1.2.2 not installed - please install first ***
however I am pretty sure that a higher version is installed as i get this with
rpm -qa | grep glib:
glibc-locale-2.3.5-40
glibmm24-2.8.0-2
glib-1.2.10-595
glibc-i18ndata-2.3.5-40
glib2-2.8.1-3
dbus-1-glib-0.35.2-8
poppler-glib-0.4.2-3
glibc-devel-2.3.5-40
glib2-devel-2.8.1-3
glibc-2.3.5-40
taglib-1.4-5
the only advice i could find on this subject is "use a package manager", but many of these things i can only get as a source package. any suggestions on what i should do? it would be much appreceated.
The matter is glib2 is not an enhanced glib1
It is not true in the usual sense. You can even
think they are different projects. So it is not
required glib2-devel in this case but rather
glib-devel.
The thing is that I have both installed, al least according to yast. i have heard that this could be a just a matter of changing a path somewhere, but i have no idea what or where. Now Im not all that experiened when it comes to this, but i do know that glib and glib2 are installed along with the devel packages for both. this should all be working! any other suggestions?
thanks!
