configuration of vmware 5.0 workstation for linux fails

distro: suse 9.0 professional
kernel: 2.6.10

vmware version:
VMware Workstation 5.0.0 build-13124

It installs just fine.

However, I get the following error when calling the application from console

Code:

#> vmware

VMware Workstation is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for the running kernel. To (re-)configure it, invoke the
following command: /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl.

This is what I do...tell what I'm doing wrong please.

Code:

1.
#> vmware-config.pl

After step 5, I try to configure it again as in step 1. Steps 1-4 are just an eternal loop.

By the way....step 5 "network" error doesn't make any sense to me. I get an IP address just fine on eth0...I surf the net and everything...In fact, I'm posting this topic now using this machine just fine.

Any ideas on vmware config issue?

Thanks, Randomx

no idea

i have no idea how to fix this either, i had the exact same problem, yesterday in fact. this really confused me alot because a month ago i installed the exact same version (same build too) another one of my computers. also running the same distro, suse 9.1. all i had to do then was hit enter a couple times then the installation and configuration were done. ?????

I know...this is too weird. I rebooted several times, shut down the dhcpcd daemon, ifdown ethx, ifup ethx, and what not.

When I find out I'll post it here...hopefully it'll save headache or two... :)

you may want to try qemu instead. i just wrote an article about how to install windows on qemu.

had the same problem with kernel 2.6.11.10.
Just deleted /etc/vmware/not_configured and vmware works fine.

Ok it's not a real solution, but it works for me :-)
