Conectiva Linux 10. Wow!
Hi I just installed Conectiva Linux 10 and all I can say is wow! This has to be the coolest slickest most polished and fastest Linux I have ever used. With Kernel 2.6.3 Gnome 2.4 and KDE 3.2 and a whole bunch of other brand new goodies this is probably about as bleeding edge as it gets.
And the good news is, if this is the future, the future is looking very cool indeed. This distro is proof if proof were ever needed that Linux can undoubtedly provide real competition for Windows on the desktop. That's not something I say lightly - as until now having tried perhaps 15+ distros, my opinion was that Linux always laggged some way behind Windows in this area. Now all that has to be done is for Linux developers to come up with some kind of uiniversal installer for all the package formats that are out there (already on the cards) and finally Linux will be in a position where its market share will exceed everyone's expectations. Lol well anyway... Its still not without problems - and Conectiva is still an eraly beta (hard to believe) but right now I'm having some trouble finding what script or text file it uses to load modules at boot time. I need to add my Audigy driver EMU10K1 and my AGP and ATI driver to the auto load list. I don't expect that any of you guys knoiw where it is located or how to do this? I think it may (although I'm not sure) be related to Red Hat. In Debian it's just /etc/modules. In Gentoo its /etc/init.d/Kernel_version. Does anybody have any experience working either with this ditro directly - or if not, with Red Hat? Your input is appreciated. GJ |
In RH9, I guess it's /etc/modules.conf

Mmm... maybe it isn't so related to Red Hat then, because that's not it.
Any other ideas anyone? GJ |
