Computer Shuts Down by Itself in Ubuntu 7.10

Guys !!! I installed ubuntu 7.10 on to my gateway laptop and for some reason, my computer shuts down after 10 minutes of inactivity. I checked power management and made sure that the laptop doesn't shut down or go to sleep. It still shuts down be itself. Any suggestions?

Checked the BIOS as well? My ThinkPad has a couple of power management parameters in its BIOS.

manosagn, thanks for your reply. I will check and get back to you on that. However, recently, it hasn't been acting up which is good.

But, my computer now fails to respond when it's inactive for like 10 minutes. I see my monitor is black and when I hit the keys, it doesn't respond. I then have to manually shut it down. If you can help me with this new issue, I'd be indebted to you. Thanks!
