compling box specific kernel in suse


How do I compile a hardware specific kernel in suse or do I need to?

do you have a reason to want to do this?

you don't "need" to unless your kernel is causing you some problem. You may find there is a small performance boost, but you probably won't notice much differece.

My advice is to leave it alone, unless there is a specific problem or reason for compiling your own kernel. Unless you know what you're doing of course.

I think cleaning up the kernel is a good thing to do. There are a lot of things activated or in modules that are completely useless to many people (like having ALL soundcards in modules).
As long as one knows what's needed and what's not, there's no problem in building (or cleaning) the kernel.
