complete muppet needs help


hia all as the title says i need help,firefox have declaired im running an old version so i downloaded it and i cant open to install it, same for youtube omg please help this old muppet,im running a eee pc 4g surf which i bought for ease of use when im out and about during work,i bought from a guy who reset the factory settings so im in a terrible state lol,dont worry i can take the heckling but step by step guide please

Does reset to factory settings mean the guy reloaded the linpus version that came with the netbook? The second questions is if you know what version of linux is running on the Eee PC?

My advice would be to install a recent lightweight version like antiX, Lubuntu, Salix LXDE.

If that's the case then Firefox will be extremely out of date. I doubt there is any easy fix for that.

I'll have to agree that installing a modern, lightweight system would be the best way to go.
I have no experience with Xandros, so giving you a step by step guide to installing an alternative will be difficult. These custom re-worked distros that PC manufacturers put on netbooks are often designed to hide all the bits that guys like us use. (like the terminal emulator for example)

Your correct Xandros was the default not linpus...

version of linux

hia all sorry for the delay working shifts at the moment,not sure whats inside but i hit f2 on startup and this is what it says 701 acpi,then core 1302 then firmwhare 701_073 if that means anything the build date is 2007.if you can direct me the way to install a different version i will be most gratefull.many thanx geoff
