Question Compiz taking up high % CPU

I need to know where to start looking for the cause of something odd with Compiz. When I boot my HP Pavilion dv9000 series running Ubuntu 8.04 conky tells me that compiz is taking up around 1 or 2 % of the CPU cycles. Playing with the eye candy a lot may take it up to around 10% but it will drop soon after I stop spinning the cube. But an hour or so later I note that compiz.real is staying between 45 and 50% and doesn't go lower.
Is there a message file that will or app that will spot the problem for me ?

I have never been able to find that problem. I attribute it to bugs in compiz. On my system it seems to happen in conjunction with Firefox after awhile, and might be related to memory leaks that Compiz most certainly has (Firefox 2 also has lots of memory leaks...it is a lot better in FF3).

Usually I just restart compiz if the problem comes up and doesn't go away. This always results in the recovery of some RAM too.

Compiz taking up high % CPU

jiml8, thanks for the reply. I had never seen any info on this problem either and I didn't know if I was the only one having it. (Usually with my computer problems, I'm the only one that has them ). I'll try and see if I can associate it with FF3. And yes, FF3 has been better than FF2.
