Compiz fusion + nvidia(?) -> fuzzy text / icons on rotate cube

Hi all,

I am running opensuse 10.3, and using compiz fusion, with the latest versions of all the xgl stuff etc.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 card, and am using the nVIDIA binary drivers.

I notice that on rotating the cube, a lot of the text appears fuzzy / out of focus. Clicking on the window snaps it back to correctness (for buttons in the panel/taskbar, a mouseover is sufficient). Is something not being redrawn fast enough? Icons seem to suffer also.

Check out http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/~jking/fuzzytext.png for an example

it's the anti-aliasing, and the graphics card is supposed to do that.
you can disable that manually by using the "nvidia-settings" program but that will disable it for all applications. maybe you can find an option in compiz fusion to disable it.
and btw, if you decide to disable anti-aliasing, it is most likely that your windows will appear pixellated when you rotate the cube(or use other effects). there is no escape from this. it's in the nature of computer graphics. the only solution is to use higher resolution and hope you'll notice it less.
my advice, and it's not really a solution, is not to use compiz fusion or any other accelerated 3d effects window manager. i used compiz fusion for 2 months or so, and concluded that in the end, it's just another toy and it wasted too much of my time to be worth the trouble.

I have anti aliasing turned off, so that is not the cause of this.

i can think of only two more reasons
1. it's a problem with a specific feature in compiz fusion. try disabling all features and adding them one at a time while testing to see if you still have the problem
2. if you have an lcd monitor, make sure it is set with its native resolution.

This just started happening in the latest version of compiz-fusion.

Which NVIDIA drivers are you using?

I found that if I don't rotate the cube the blur stays (go to cube and don't do anything). If I rotate the cube the blur will disappear when returning to the desktop.

+1 here. just installed compiz and activated cube etc. same deal. looks fuzzy while animating, then when the animation stops, looks clear again.

to be precise, the letters on this box look about twice as thick when i ctrl alt drag or anything else. when animation is done, letters get thin again.

edit:
i disabled 'bicubic filtering' and that helps alot.
