Compiz fusion does nothing

I have installed compiz fusion on suse 10.3 x64 with 8800GT vid card. When i click compiz fusion icon, it runs fine but no effects take place (like when i try to use the cube or wobbly windows nothing happens).
Any ideas?

Saying you clicked, you don't really see what is happening in the background, so i suggest try starting compiz from shell and that way you will see if there is any kind of error message, then you would know what went wrong. Second take a look at this http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_Fusion , maybe it will help.

best of luck

Run the configuration program ccsm, perhaps all the groovy effects are
switched off by default.

all right i ran: compiz-manager &
and got:
Code:
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Detected PCI ID for VGA: 01:00.0 Class 0300: 10de:0611 (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: present.
Checking for Composite extension: not present.
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity
no /usr/bin/metacity found, exiting
so i need xgl?

well i seemed to have fixed it.
for anyone interested...
i did
after installing nvidia drivers (of course)
nvidia-xconfig --composite
nvidia-xconfig --render-accel
nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals -d 24

then

compiz-manager &

so my question now is how to autostart it and keep the kde look of the titlebar?

Search for "xgl" in YaST2's package manager. The "opensuse-xgl-settings" package installs a program that will install any missing packages or drivers and set the options.
