Question Compiling the Quake3 source code.

g'day
i was wondering if anyone here has compiled and created an executable for the quake3 source? i downloaded it and it mentioned something abt compiling with scons ( no idea what that is ) so i tried importing it into Eclipse as a managed C++ project but the darn thing keeps running out of memory and exits with a Java stack error.
im trying out a heavily modified version of the quake3 engine called Xreal ( http://xreal.sourceforge.net/xrealwiki/ScreenShots ) and looking at its source it seems to be the similiar as the standard quake3 so if i can figure that out this shouldnt be too hard.

thanx

P.S i put this post here in the software section instead of the games section as it relates more to software compiling than to games, incase anyone was wondering.

The error messages you show, with the "cannot find -lopenal" are linker errors. If you got that far it probably means that the compiler was able to find the header files but the linker was not able to find the object file to link to. Look at at what the -L options are as they list which directories to use to search for -l libraries.

Hello,

I'm a newbie. I'm running into the same problem while trying to install Assault Cube from source. The only unresolved dependency is "cannot find -lopenal" Any help would be appreciated.
