Compiling Kernel errors

Is it normal to see unused variables and functions when compiling a kernel? It is my first time doing so, I was asking if it is ok to see these warnings and errors, or if I should raise concern...

Errors should always be of concern, warning may or may not be ignored. I usually some unused variables warnings whenever compiling a kernel.

Could you post some of the messages? This will help in determining if you should be concerned or not.

Probably shouldnt have posted this so early...
I'm installing CRUX 2.8, and a part of the installation process is to compile a kernel, something that I know how to do, but dread it, nonetheless. I don't know what the problem was specifically, but I got a kernel panic when I booted up, so I just decided to give it another shot. Probably not the solution people wanted to see, but it'll work for me. Maybe I can find a config file that works with my computer by trial-and-error.

Well, I will give it another shot, and see what happens. Probably just added too many options, or added something experimental.
