Unhappy Compiling KDE?

I would like to add KDE 4.3.4 to Mandriva 2009.1 (x86_64). It came with 4.2.2, but automatic updates moved me up to 4.2.4 easily and with no problems.

Others have installed KDE 4.3.4 smoothly on 2009.1 (and have very attractive desktops!), now I would like to do this also.

I cannot find the compiled RPMs anywhere, because this isn't officially released. I have found the source code for 4.3.4 on many ftp servers, and I downloaded it to a regular user directory. This way I can compile it and make sure it is correct before I install it on my system.

Mandriva's RPM-building wiki tells me to type ./configure, but there is no such file there. Their RPM building file also mentions a specfile that often has some Mandriva-specific configuration in it, but I can't find this either. I thought these would come in the source code, but they are not there.

I can follow directions to compile, but not if I cannot find these important files to begin. I put this post in "linux - software" (not a Mandriva specific forum) because anyone who has ever compiled any software may be able to help me to look for these important files, not just Mandriva users.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Can you please provide a directory listing of the files that you have?

When I unzip and untar, it looks like each package has several subdirs as appropriate (sounds, themes, whatever), with text files 'COPYING' (GNU GPL) and CMakeLists.txt. The CMakeLists.txt *_could_* be some kind of directions for building, it starts with a header that says "project(kdeadmin)" (substitute name of other module if not kdeadmin). What do you think?
