compiling industrializer drum synthesizer

So I heard about a possibly interesting program named Industrializer, which supposedly can synthesize drum sounds, writing them to samples that can then be used with whatever program one uses for making tunes. Sounds interesting.

I went over to http://industrializer.sourceforge.net/ and grabbed the source.

Turns out I had all the dependencies but for one: gtkglarea

There are two gtkglarea packages. No, really. Oog.

Grabbed one. Hey, fifty percent chance, right? docs clearly say to do the usual ./configure make make install, OK. Yeah, but there is no ./configure.

At that point I stopped. This is nuts.

Has anyone actually gotten industrializer to build?

wow
psindustrializer-0.2.5.tar.bz2 is from 2005

that would give even me a bit of problems

if you MUST use software that is 3 THREE!!!! GENERATIONS old and out of date

-- first ask your self DO YOU NEED THIS!!!

if might build using gcc3.3 ( but seeing gcc 5 is current)
installing and using many different versions of gcc is a thread ALL BY ITS SELF

Damn I wrote things in 2005 that still work now, what the hell?

In the meantime, I've found, and gotten to work, a similar sort of program, sfxr. It's oriented towards retro video game styled sound effects, but some of those make fine percussion samples. Bonus: it's random so one can just click & click until one gets something of interest. Here is a link for the curious: http://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html

small simple code from 10,15,20+ years ago can still work
i use a bunch of F77 fortran

more complex things tend to be a problem
this one "psindustrializer-0.2.5" needs GTK 1 ( in a gtk3 world )

so i am stopping right there , seeing as i do not want to put gtk1 and it's needed filed on my system

have a look at "hydrogen"
http://www.hydrogen-music.org/hcms/
it should be in most OS repos

The 2005 psindustrializer-0.2.5.tar.bz2 from ...
https://netix.dl.sourceforge.net/pro...-0.2.5.tar.bz2
... compiles OK with e.g. gcc-4.9.2 , so no worries. The GUI opens OK too.
