Newbie with a question here.
I'm trying to compile a program, but everytime I run the ./configure for the program, I get a message stating: "configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH" I'm running Suse 9.1 , vanilla kernel, nothing fancy going on. I can only ssh into the box at the moment, and there is no cdrom on the computer.
Any ideas on how to get a compiler in the path? Is this just a problem with the fact that I'm ssh-ing into the box, and not doing commands on the box?
Just getting frustrated here.
You need to install the gcc compiler and the associated tools and libraries. This is quite a lot, but in your package manager there is probably a "Development packages" pack that you can install.
Don't you have some sort of package manager in SuSE? YaST perhaps? I think it has a package manager that will help you install the needed development tools. The packages should all be available on the CD (or FTP in case you did a network installation).
How do I run YaST from an ssh login? I have webmin installed, and might be able to install it there, but I don't know what I'm looking for. Should I just search the RPM database for the gcc development kit and install it?
Thanks for your help.
