What specific errors? Errors during the configure means you're missing a program or library. Could you post the errors here?

This is a very ambigous post. We need clarification - just don't include Error1 recursive blah blah blah.

ok guys
sorry about the lack of details.
at the end of trying to compile, I get the message looking for c compiler, gcc missing or corrupt.
Is this something to do with the package itself?
Or am I missing a compiler program?

Hi there barrynewt, I am thinking that maybe including the name of the file, and possible at least the lines that start the error, or even a few above it would help in tackling this.

What distro you running? You may need to "upgrade" and install the devloper packages. You might not have a few of the required compiling programs. Or your GCC might need updating if you do have it installed.

thanks for the reply.
I'm running Mandrake 8.2
Unfortunately I'm not on my linux box till later this evening.
I'll try and run an upgrade of packages later.
I did notice that sometimes with mandrake that it doesnt always install everything you request when running in recommended mode. ( this was on MD 8.1 ).
So I run expert, that seems to do the trick.
It may be that this is still an issue. with 8.2 as well.
I've got my machine running pretty well now, even to the point of not using windows, so I dont want to redo everything.
Basically, I just need to get some cd burning working, but this compiler error is holding me back.
I've got all the programs required ( cdrecord etc.)but the front ends ( kreate, xmp3burn etc.) all have problems. ( haven't tried console mode yet)
I've tried to delete these folders but now get permission errors.
So I know that part of the install has worked. My feeling is that i've not loaded something correctly, or that i've partially upgraded something.
anyway thanks for your time so far, I'll let you know how i get on

I can't remember if Mandrake installs gcc or not under recommended but MasterC's right you either need gcc or you need to update it. Although I thought that configure checks for gcc before the end. Maybe gcc got corrupted???
