Compile samba with acl-support
Hi, I use RedHat 7.3 and XFS 1.1. I installed the the packets from the additional RedHat-Cd for XFS. Now I tried to install Samba 2.2.5. The problem is when I start ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/samba-2.2.5 --with-acl-support at the end I get a message, that Samba use no acls because it has a problem with -lacl.
Does anybody know any tips?
Ciao, Johannes

This problem does look somewhat similar to what I once encountered in another program. If libacl.so got installed by samba, then the problem is due to its make-scripts, if not, you can fix it probably easily. \
First, check whether the file libacl.so exists.... and if it does, run ldconfig, go to the samba again and do a make distclean, before you restart.
Good luck

Hi, thanks for your tips. I tried it (I found the libacl.so and started ldconfig -v), but I got the same errors. I checked the config.log again and saw that it checks a lot of __ - files and nearly everyone returns "no", also the __acl.
I run ./configure as normal user, should I try it as root? I use samba 2.2.5, should I use an older version?
Bye, Johannes

One thing I can think of:
In which folder is the libacl.so located?
If it is not in /lib or in /usr/lib or in /usr/local/lib (I mean, directly in this folder. Not in a subdirectory), there might be a missing symbolic link to it. If it is i.e. in /usr/lib/libacl/libacl.so, you would have to create a link to it in /usr/lib in order to find it.
./configure running as normal user is not a problem.
And very important. If you try again, do a make distclean.

Oh, yet another thing: Check the version of libacl against the version that is required. Maybe, yours is too old.

Hi, how can I look for the version of libacl and do you know which version I need?
I think the version isn't too old, because I use the one from RedHat 7.3.
Bye, Johannes
