compile mplayer from source

I want to try to compile mplayer from source. I am not sure how the codec get compiled with it. Do I compile the codec seperatly, then link them? That does not seem right. If you could just point me in the right direction.

The codec is already done, there is not compiling, you just untar it to a directory:
tar xvzf win32codecs.tar.gz -C /usr/lib

And then point the configure script to it:
./configure --enable-gui --enable-runtime-cpudetection --win32codecs=/usr/lib/win32codecs

However, my syntax could be off, check what the call is with:
./configure --help
And near the bottom there should be information on how to point to the codecs directory.

Cool
