Compile Error with ntfs-3g

I'm trying to do a ./configure on ntfs-3g, and I get this error that says "error: C compiler cannot create executables." I have gcc, g++ and everything installed, but I don't have build-essential. It's an offline server so I can't use apt-get to install it. I also can't find an RPM for CentOS. Is that what I need to resolve this? Or is this error caused by something else?

Hi,

There should be a config.log created that might have some more info. Basically in order to compile programs from source in RHEL based distros you'll need the Development Tools, Development Libraries, Legacy Software and Legacy Software Development.

Regards

I think I have all that stuff. I just need the build-essential package.

Are you trying to build ntfs-3g for Centos or Debian?
And you didn't say what's in config.log

Where's the log? In the folder with the config script?

Yes, it's created in the directory where you ran ./configure

Not that bad looking, it says "missing --run autoconf" "missing --run autoheader" and "missing --run automake-1.10"

You should post the whole config.log, or at least about 20+ lines above the error. And put the snippet inside "CODE" tags for better reading.
FYI, I've tried to compile ntfs-3g on a RHEL-5.2 box, where I've installed the packages mentioned in post #2 and it compiled without a hitch.

Quote:
As of CentOS 5.4 (kernel 2.6.18-164 or newer), the fuse kernel module is included in the kernel itself. Therefore, dkms and dkms-fuse are no longer required. If you have previously installed dkms-fuse, please uninstall it by a yum remove dkms-fuse command. Please note that CentOS-4 users need those 2 packages.
