Compile Error

everything I try to install something from source I get a compile error saying that the "C compiler cannot create executables" can anyone help me with this?

Can you manually compile programs?

eg:

Code:

int main() { return 0; }

gcc foo.c

Does the above compile?

I guess not.... and I know that I have GCC installed, it was the first thing I checked when I installed ubuntu....

seems you need development packages for glibc (and maybe other libs too).
