Compat map for group redefined; X starts only after delay

A delay of about 30 seconds has started to happen recently. I notice the warning:

Quote:
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Warning: Compat map for group 2 redefined
> Using new definition
> Warning: Compat map for group 3 redefined
> Using new definition
> Warning: Compat map for group 4 redefined
> Using new definition
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
I don't have any problems once X starts running. I'd be glad to fix this error but I don't understand it. I haven't deliberately changed my keyboard maps.

I'm running kde-4.9.0 on LFS-7.1

I've got the same lines in my /var/log/kdm.log

KDM is set to auto login
logging in kevin
authentication failed

I cannot login w/KDM -- keyboard will not function in login window

Auth.log error

I can only log in to kde through the console using startx. which asks for the password twice before giving me a prompt

I didn't have a problem running X, just a delay and these errors. I figured out that a package update had made some of my keyboard map files out-of-date (I have customized them.) Recompiling with xkbcomp eliminated the error report. X starts up quickly some times, slowly others; apparently this error had nothing to do with it. I've eliminated all the errors reported in the logs: I don't know what's up: I've put off figuring it out.
