Compaq Proliant 6500 + Redhat 7.1 = Signal 11 error

Hey guys,

I'm installing redhat 7.1 and i'm getting the following error after it has loaded up anaconda:

install exited abnormally -- recieved signal 11
sending termination signals -- done
sending kill signals -- done

it then goes and unmounts everything and says its okay for me to reboot. I'm running a dual processor compaq proliant 6500. I'm thinking it might be the ARRAY system?? This system has 9 scsi hard drives, in and ARRAY system, could it be that redhat isn't recognizing this in installation?

found the solution

when installing linux, where it tells you to type in text and then hit enter if you want the text mode and all that good stuff. you just put in:

linux ide=nodma

that made it work for me.

Hi Guys,

I'm setting up a an old Compaq system too (Deskpro 4000 200 mmx) with redhat 7.1 and having similar problem.

Unfortunately your solution didn't fix it, akebono.

The only extra piece of information I have is after

'Running Anaconda - please wait' ,

I get

'import site' failed; use -v for traceback

then it goes into the 'install exited abnormally -- recievd signal 11....'

Doesn't mean a lot to me I must admit. Any ideas?

Hi

Which model of the Compaq Deskpro 4000 are you using ?

Some models have integrated video while some like the 5200
have a separate video card.

The reason I ask is that I did some trial installations of RH 8.0
and RH9.0 a while back.

I found that the 5200 (P200) models had a separate VDU card
installed that fouled up RH when it executed.

I replaced the VDU card with a cheap ($2 AUS) Cirrus logic
display adapter and the machine worked ok as I recall.

So I think that an earlier suggestion to swap out the video card
is a good one to try.

I found that the P200s were too slow for a RH 9
workstation install. Ive got them queued up for some
experimental BSD 5.0 installs instead.

Hope that helps

Chris
