Compaq Monitor 7500 goes in Power Save

The computer is a Compaq S4020WM from WalMart.
Monitor is a Compaq 7500.

Installing RH9.

During install, I discovered that I must select "text"
to do the install or the monitor will go into power
save mode, and that's all she wrote.

So, after installation, it reboots. Most of the way
through the booting, the monitor again goes into power
save mode.

I've tried to boot with the boot floppy i created, but
it still does it.

Any clues?
