Comments about the new gnome 41

After spending a bit of time studying gnome 3 and installed a new Debian to
test gnome 41, I find the following:

1. It seems I cannot put applications as icons on the Desktop.
This is bad compared to Gnome3.

2. I cannot find how to make mounted volumes to appear as a icon on Desktop.
This is bad compared to Gnome3.

3. The Dock to Dash is gone, now the dock is activated at the bottom of
the screen only I push the cursor to the to top left. And then I have to push the cursor all the way down to choose an app in the dock at the bottom.
This is bad compared to Gnome3 where I just to click on an icon on the permanet Dock (either on the left or right of the screen -- my choice).

Gnome41 seems to be much polished but it seems quite dumb. Can they not
activate the useful "Window List" and "Horizontal Workspaces/Workspace Indicator" and "Application Menu" and "Place Status Indicator" for a new user? It is much easier to turn off than to turn on certain switches. Please Gnome people consider my comments.

Yes. To solve the problems will probably take a day or two (if they exist!). But does it have
to be this hard?

Enough of exploring. I will wait to see if other users have the same
complain with others.

As a matter of fact, I find the gnome3 is much better once we learn the hard way to customize it (well I took a few years of trial and error to get it right!).

it looks like you need to spend more time on studying gnome41

It is not that bad, it just works differently. gnome40 is redesigned, do not expect the exact same behavior.

And again, it is redesigned....

hm. How do you know that? obviously there can be issues, but I don't think all of them can be solved in a day or two. Actually if you think you found a bug you need to write a bug report to gnome, this forum is not really suitable for that. But first check this: https://help.gnome.org/users/evoluti...-down-problems

it looks quite similar for gnome40. [it looks like] you will learn the hard way to customize it (probably will take a few years again).

yes. it might take a few years to learn to customize correctly. that is the reason I was on MATE, Gnome classic, and has nothing to do with gnome3 until CentOS 6 really dies.

Isn't CentOS 6 already dead for almost a year?

Yes. My bad for the confusion. I was on more or less on gnome2 for a long long time on CentOS6. Then I switched
to centos 7 where i used MATE, then Gnome3 classic, and
then finally true Gnome3 that I "lost" Windows List and Workspaces for a few months (probably I thought I could survive the bare Gnome3 = hot key + click on a shrinked window icons among many tiny windows. It was too much...) but i was always feeling rather strange about it until i looked at the issue recently.
During the last few years i have login to new OS to practice Gnome3 trying to tame that. The curve is way too high for me.

I agree with the sentiment about moving the mouse that much. I use the 'win' key next to the left ctrl key to pop up the favorites menu at the bottom, and 'win+A' to pop up the entire activities menu.

Gnome-tweaks and gnome-extensions-app manage the items you describe here. Check them out.

Expecting a newly designed DE to be perfect when first released is unrealistic. You say you had to learn over time how to customize the gnome 3 interface, and the same can be expected for the gnome 40/41 interface.
