Comment blocks in Bash?

In PHP, you can create comment blocks by using the /* */ tags. Is there a similar function in Bash? This would make scripting much easier.

I am aware of the "#" commenting function, but that only comments a single line. I'm looking for a way to commend a block of text (multi-line commenting without a "#" on each line)
