Command to know the status of a specific port

Hi,
I am having Redhat7.0 and "nmap" command is not there.
I wish to know the status of a specific port.
E.g. If I wish to know whether port no 4 is open or
close.

I have tried by the following command.

netstat -punta | grep 4

but it gives status of all the ports having 4 in it,E.g.143,
487 and so on.

Please help me to solve this problem
