Command line utilities to use scanner + printer as a photocopier

Hi. I would like to use a scanner and a printer as a photocopier. I'd like to make a short shell script that when run, scans the current A4 contents of the scanner and immediately prints it out. I'd then create a simple GUI in Java with a big "copy" button. Perhaps with some sort of choice of number of pages to print. It wouldn't be me using it.

Can anyone recommend command-line utilities that would work for this. I vaguely seem to remember some sort of command line scan program, and surely there's something around to print out an image on a printer

Thanks in anticipation,

Ross-c

Something like:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
cd /tmp
scanimage --format=tiff > temp.tiff
tiff2ps -O temp.ps temp.tiff
NUM=`kdialog -inputbox Copies:`
for (( i=0; i<$NUM; i++ ))
do
lp temp.ps
done
rm temp.ps temp.tiff
I'm sure there's better ways of doing it though.
