Command line tape backup software
I have a HP DAT 40/80 GB tape backup in a new (hand-me-down) Debian server and am looking for good tape b/u software that can be run from the command line.
The drive is recognized at bootup so Linux does see it. I've used tar for making file archives -- can I use it with this device? |

Yes. Here is a description of how to do that: http://www.cs.inf.ethz.ch/stricker/lab/linux_tape.html -------------------- Steve Stites |
Thanks, I'll check it out.
Is there anything else out there? I figured I could just do an apt-cache search tape or something, but I thought someone here might have some input on one. |
afio works great for me and my tape drives :)

afio
I'll check out afio, too. Thanks!
I just did an apt-cache search afio, and found these: -------------- afio - archive file manipulation program backup2l - low-maintenance backup/restore tool for mountable media flexbackup - Flexible backup tool for small to medium sized installations tob - Small yet powerful program for tape oriented backups -------------- Looks like I have a few leads. I'll try one or two out. Thanks for the tip. |
